Jay Forrester built World3 in 1972 for the Club of Rome's *Limits to Growth* report. The model fed population growth, resource depletion, and pollution into a coupled system and ran it forward. The "business as usual" scenario predicted civilizational collapse around 2040 — population peaks, food production crashes, industrial output follows. Surfaced via Open Culture, with the unspoken observation that the curves so far track the model unsettlingly well.
