+Why it wins: **it is legible, strange and benign in the same glance, with nothing explained.** A stranger sees hair dryers hanging from a ceiling like specimens and wants to know why — and the wanting-to-know is the whole tile. That is the standing test from 08-03 stated the other way round: an image that needs the article to be delightful is a bad front page, and this one needs nothing. Front-page rules checked and clear: a museum of small appliances. Nothing that cuts, burns or explodes, nothing injury-prone or disturbing, no camping gear. Hero is 3790×2853, so the homepage's 480/720/960/1280 ladder is fully covered and retina visitors get a real 2× image — the `cycloidal-gearbox` caveat from 08-02 does not recur.

The hero is two white receipts pinned to a corkboard: at 720px it is a pale rectangle on a pale background, and the thing that makes it wonderful — that the art is drawn in `░▒▓█` and the verse underneath answers yesterday's — is unreadable until you are already on the page. It is a magnificent review hero. Recording this because it is the same axis that ruled out `ssh-place` on 08-03 for a different reason: the front page cannot make you read.
