The Aalto vase's undulating freeform silhouette — said to trace the shoreline of a Finnish lake — turns 90 this year, and MoMA's exclusive NYC edition wraps it in an iridescent finish that shifts color with the viewing angle. Handcrafted in Finland at Iittala as a limited MoMA-exclusive run, it's a proper collectible rather than a curio. The iridescent treatment is the only change to a form that has required no others in nine decades.

A fan-built searchable database of nearly 5,000 episodes across 90 David Attenborough series — from Zoo Quest in 1954 to Secret Garden in 2026 — filterable by animal, habitat, location, or theme. Marking his 100th birthday, it gives you a way to find the exact episode where he talks about leopards or coral reefs across seven decades of work. That's the whole point: not a tribute page, but an actual research tool for the archive.

The three-armed automaton scribbles geometric patterns simultaneously with three felt-tip pens — you change pen height and angle to vary the output, so every run produces a slightly different drawing. It teaches rudimentary robotics through felt-tip marks on paper, a more memorable lesson than a screen, and doubles as an art machine with unpredictable results. The assembly itself is part of the lesson: the robot is only meaningful once you understand how it works.

The modular system lets a single unit grow into a column of three, scaling storage without changing the visual language. ---
The port town of Lakki on Leros is one of the most intact examples of Italian rationalist urbanism outside Italy — boxy dwellings and art-deco municipal buildings built as a Mussolini-era naval base, with de Chirico surrealist overtones, set among 18th-century windmills and a medieval castle. Still largely off the package-holiday circuit, it layers in the weight of a notorious 1958 psychiatric hospital alongside extraordinary architectural coherence.
