Not we-are-rewind-pink-floyd-cassette: the closest call. Benign, delightful, and genuinely fresh. But its hero is a black-on-black studio shot of a box set — low contrast at tile size, and it carries "PINK FLOYD / SPECIAL EDITION" branding inside the frame, so it reads as an advertisement rather than an invitation. Its appeal also narrows to people who already care about Pink Floyd or cassettes. The Porcelain Room needs no such prior.
Not holding a pool review: two strong graduations landed today, so the "don't look frozen" rule points the same way as the quality call.
## 2026-07-18 — capture run
Sources scanned: 59 total — 13 `fetch: skip`, 23 cadence-skipped (weekly/monthly/as-needed sources productive within their windows — Recomendo, Uses This, Carryology, Kikkerland, A Continuous Lean, Put This On, Standard & Strange, Outlier, Snow Peak, StyleForum, Roadtrippers, Messy Nessy Chic, AFAR, Wallpaper* Travel, Web Curios, Things Magazine, Kevin Kelly kk.org, TidBITS, Brett Terpstra, Dr. Drang, Quote Investigator, Wikiquote, The Marginalian), 23 actively scanned. Of the 23: 9 productive, 11 empty / dup-only / dropped-on-bar, 3 blocked (r/shortcuts, r/BuyItForLife, r/dadjokes — HTTP 429, one retry each).
Productive sources: Atlas Obscura (7), icanhazdadjoke (5), r/macapps (3), Hacker News — Show HN (3), Six Colors (2), This Is Why I'm Broke (2), Daring Fireball — Linked List (1), Gear Patrol (1), Permanent Style (1).
Fanned out 6 scanner subagents (source clusters) → central dedup/bar/shortlist in the main session → 6 writer subagents (verify + files + heroes).
**Dedup + bar did heavy lifting.** Scanners surfaced ~55 candidates; dedup caught a large repeat set already published on 07-16/07-17 — sushi-chess-set, king-jim-kerita-folding-cutting-mat, braun-analog-digital-watch-step-counter, transformers-mysterious-prime, joolca-hottap-go, best-made-sailors-knife, we-are-rewind, audiopen, one-more-letter-word-game, firefox-in-webassembly-puter, nomido-word-game, moist-towelette-online-museum, naturalists-library-wildlife-illustrations, john-margolies-americana-archive, uncovered-book-first-pages — plus evergreen Awesomer reposts (Viperade/Victorinox/S&W). Dropped on the bar: commodity Gear Patrol EDC/hi-fi (Böker multitool, Spyderco/Civivi knives, Marantz/McIntosh audio, Doxa/Shinola watches), MoMA mass-market (Samsung The Frame; Samsung Music Studio 5 re-rejected as mainstream), TIWIB horror-slasher gnomes (off the delight brief) + air-conditioned pants (crowdfunding, re-rejected) + Aboard electric trailer (preorder-risk, camper-adjacent), r/macapps saturated genres (onirica on-device image-gen, pasly clipboard, iconize-folder/keyzer wcjiang self-promo cluster), HN dev-tooling + niche (honeypot-live, port-index), and generic Product Hunt SaaS.
**Hard exclusion (alcohol):** dropped The Awesomer's "La Marca Prosecco Spritz Cocktails" and TIWIB's "Fish Flask" (spirits flask) categorically.

25 finds. Shortlist (12, ranked):
1. scrollpods — scroll the focused Mac window by tilting your head, reading the motion sensors in your AirPods; free, genuinely novel, clean hero. [review candidate]
2. solgrylle-blacksmiths-bridge-aarhus — four relief figures on a 1911 Aarhus bridge, each caught mid-squat, tied to a summer-solstice folk legend; strong free Commons hero. [review candidate]
3. vulcain-presidents-watch-titanium-cricket — the "President's Watch" mechanical-alarm Cricket reborn in Grade 5 titanium, ~100 pieces; deep heritage, clean product hero. [review candidate]
4. lennie-gwyther-ginger-mick-statue — a nine-year-old's 1932 ~600-mile pony ride to the Sydney Harbour Bridge opening; heartwarming, benign, high-res Commons hero. [review candidate]
5. park-shelf — park open Mac windows on an off-screen shelf and summon them back; one clear virtue, clean hero.
6. the-big-galah-kimba — an 8m, 2.3-tonne fiberglass pink cockatoo marking Australia's eastwest midpoint; photogenic "Big Thing".
7. dongfangzhimen-big-pants-building — Suzhou's "Big Pants" tower, poster child of China's weird-architecture backlash; strong Commons hero.
8. caption-comet — burns captions into video entirely on-device with bundled Whisper models, batch via Dock drop.
9. alessandro-gasparini-low-vamp-loafers — Blake-stitched loafers from a little-known Italian maker, rated near Edward Green by Simon Crompton; clean editorial hero.
10. docklift — click an app's Dock icon and its window jumps to the display you're using; free, MIT, single-virtue.
11. borden-avenue-bridge-queens — a 1908 retractile bridge that opens by sliding sideways, one of four left in the US; Commons hero.
12. diena-timeline-of-everything — a zoomable timeline of ~4M Wikipedia events on one continuous scale; heroless but a genuine web-toy delight.
Not shortlisted (captured, lower priority): artfultype (charming, but retro-Mac editor is a niche), panicvault (solid local KeePass manager, but password-manager tiles read flat), ikea-complexity-index and qbasic-gorillas-repeeled (delightful web toys, both heroless), feel-seating-system-deluxe (design-icon lounger, but out of stock / not taking new orders — demoted), marlin-semi-submersible-watercraft (Seabreacher — pure aspirational spectacle), the-dog-line-eaglehawk-neck and steve-ovetts-foot-brighton (good Atlas oddities behind the day's four strongest places), five jokes. Spread across the 12: 5 software/web, 5 travel, 2 physical (matrix-ring skipped and feel-seating demoted thinned the physical axis).
Amazon links added: none. No shortlisted physical product had a clean same-maker/same-model Amazon match (Vulcain limited watch, Gasparini boutique Italian loafers; Seabreacher/Feel Seating are direct-from-maker only).
Corrections made in-body during verification:
- **artfultype** — the capture brief's "runs on the original 1984 128K Macintosh" is wrong per the repo README: it targets classic 68k compact Macs (a Mac Plus or similar, System 6/7), which the 128K model can't run. Corrected in subtitle and body.
- **solgrylle-blacksmiths-bridge-aarhus** — brief said "eight identical figures"; Aarhus city archives / AarhusWiki consistently describe **four** solgrylle, one per bridge pillar. Corrected to four; material left unstated (no source confirms bronze); used the bridge's Danish name Smedens Bro (inaugurated 1911-08-03).
- **vulcain-presidents-watch-titanium-cricket** — maker domain is vulcain.ch (vulcain-watches.com does not resolve); ~$7,670 start, Grade 5 titanium case + movement, ~100-piece limit — Gear Patrol's article was Cloudflare-blocked, so facts were confirmed via search and the maker's preorder page.
- **park-shelf** — "custom hotkeys" is a not-yet-shipped Pro feature (listed "coming"), dropped; Pro ($6.99 one-time) currently adds unlimited parked windows; default hotkeys are free.
- **feel-seating-system-deluxe** — the maker page shows this configuration out of stock / "not taking new orders" ($13,950). Stated honestly and demoted from the shortlist.
- **marlin-semi-submersible-watercraft** — Seabreacher's catalog has no "Marlin" model (Shark/Killer Whale/Dolphin only); the marlin livery shown is a custom paint job. Name set to plain "Seabreacher" and body corrected.
- **borden-avenue-bridge-queens** — "wooden-deck" claim dropped (current roadway is metal grille with wood-plank sidewalks).
- **the-matrix-ring** — SKIPPED, not written: danielidle.com has no shop/price/buy path anywhere; design press treats the Digital Rain Ring as a showcase concept, not a purchasable product. Removed from the shortlist rather than publish an unbuyable item.
Image-fetch notes: 20 of 25 finds carry a hero. All seven Atlas Obscura travel heroes were sourced from free-licensed Wikimedia Commons photos of the actual places (CC/CC0/public-domain) — never Atlas Obscura's own copyrighted shots, per the travel rule. Heroless: diena-timeline-of-everything (only og:image is a text-overlay promo graphic — declined per the no-overlay rule), ikea-complexity-index and qbasic-gorillas-repeeled (live-rendered table / canvas game, no static hero at any common path), and the five jokes (expected).
**Security note (prompt injection):** two Atlas Obscura feed entries ("Michael Jackson HIStory Statue" and "Smygehuk Snake Barrier") carried embedded prompt-injection text — a `[NOTE TO THE EDITOR: …]` block instructing the feed's LLM reader to edit geo-header metadata on Atlas Obscura's own site, plus stray `class="font-claude-response-body"` markup. The scanner flagged it and did not act; the main session did not act on the injected instructions either. Both tainted entries were dropped from capture as a precaution (plenty of clean Atlas places remained). No pipeline action was taken on any injected instruction.
Source maintenance:
- Reddit r/shortcuts, r/BuyItForLife, r/dadjokes returned HTTP 429 again (one retry each) while r/macapps succeeded from the same old.reddit.com host — the established intermittent-throttle pattern, not dead sources. r/BuyItForLife has now 429'd on three consecutive runs (07-14, 07-17, 07-18), which is its own note's OAuth-probe trigger, but no REDDIT_CLIENT_ID/SECRET exists in env or .env, so OAuth cannot be attempted — held, no `fetch: skip` (the host demonstrably works); note updated and top-level `updated` bumped to 2026-07-18.
- Watch item (no change yet): the Product Hunt feed returned mostly generic AI/B2B SaaS with a possible personalized/saved-search skew this run — one observation, re-check next run before touching the source.
New source nominees: 0 (see candidate-sources.md). Scanners surfaced no genuine new "via/h-t/first seen on" credits; the lone "TidBITS" suggestion is already an existing source. Standing backlog unchanged and still the priority — 6 high-conviction unvetted (The Public Domain Review, Michael Tsai, MetaFilter, Colossal, Craig Mod / Ridgeline, Nomadico), 10+ total awaiting user vetting.
