Built in 1980 from an oil drum and chicken wire for a Bridgwater Young Farmers' carnival float, Humphrey has stood ever since in a field off the M5 between Junctions 23 and 24 in Somerset — outliving the parade he was built for by four decades. Commuters dress him for the seasons and mail him Christmas cards addressed simply to "The Camel."
