description: "Snøhetta's redesign of Longyearbyen's Huset — a 1951 multipurpose mining-town building turned fine-dining restaurant at 78 degrees north — with red linoleum, stained oak, and fabric wall panels tuned to shift with the polar night and midnight sun."

Huset occupies a 1951 building that once served as Longyearbyen's church, hospital, school, and cinema all at once — practical multitasking for a mining town at 78 degrees north. Snøhetta's redesign kept that spirit of reuse: red linoleum floors, stained oak joinery, and layered transparent fabric panels that create a shifting moiré pattern on the walls as the light changes between polar night and the midnight sun. It still runs a 14-course tasting menu and one of Scandinavia's largest wine cellars.
