Every Tokyo platform plays a different few seconds of music when a train pulls in — a 1989 fix for JR East's harsh boarding buzzers, composed for piano, harp, and bells so neighboring stations wouldn't clash. This archive collects recordings from rail-fan enthusiasts, credits the jazz keyboardist who wrote roughly 170 of them, and notes that much of the catalog will be retired within a decade.
