site: bundles — Not built to be visited, The page is the point

Pool was at exactly 25 (the nominal cluster threshold) but yesterday's cluster
run already judged its remainder un-clusterable, so re-clustering would only
re-litigate that. Two tight 3-item themes instead, neither padded: three places
built for living/working rather than visiting (the run's one real patch to a
travel axis that has been thin for a week), and three things that argue for the
handmade page by being one — which finally surfaces london-notebook-writing,
shortlisted-but-invisible since 07-04.

New source nominees: 1 genuinely new (**Colossal** — thisiscolossal.com, credited "via colossal" by Kottke; a daily art/design/photography feed, and the visual axis is where our heroes come from). The more interesting signal is a **recurrence**: Michael Tsai (nominated 07-12) and Craig Mod / Ridgeline (nominated 07-06) both surfaced *again* this run, each credited by a different existing source. They are the highest-conviction unvetted nominees we have, and they keep arriving secondhand. The nominee backlog is now large (86 bullets across 10 rounds) and is the one thing in this pipeline only the user can clear.
## 2026-07-14 — bundles: Not built to be visited / The page is the point
The unbundled shortlist pool stood at exactly 25 — nominally the cluster-run threshold. **Deliberately did not cluster.** Yesterday was a 7-bundle cluster run that covered 31 of 46 and explicitly judged its 15-item remainder un-clusterable ("no honest theme held these together... padding a cluster with them would have wrecked the six that do hold"). Re-clustering the same grab-bag one day later would just re-litigate that call with a day's less distance. No weekly catch was due either — the last one is 07-12, inside the trailing 7 days. So: two tight themed bundles, both drawn mostly from today's capture, neither padded.

Through-line: places designed for something other than being looked at — a lived-in Hong Kong housing estate (a guard still checks resident cards), a lime kiln that burned limestone for 66 years, and the hill at the end of a San Francisco residential street. Each rewards a visit *because* it wasn't built for one. Kept to 3: there was no fourth honest place in the pool, and this is the run's one real patch to the travel axis, which has been thin for a week (Roadtrippers dormant, Outbound/Boutique Homes undateable, Atlas Obscura quiet until today).
Distinct from 07-09's "Small mercies for the trip" (travel *gear*, not places) and 07-12's "Maps of the unmappable" (representations of places, not the places).

Through-line: each item argues for the handmade page *by being one*. Bantock's novel is literally glued-in mail you unfold; Price's guide to loose, unprecious journaling is hand-lettered on every page instead of typeset; London's 1903 advice is to carry a notebook and slap every stray thought into it. A deliberate genre mix (two books + one verified quote) — the theme is the practice, not the object class. This finally surfaces london-notebook-writing, which had been shortlisted-but-invisible since 07-04.
Coverage: 6 of the 25-item unbundled pool. 19 remain invisible (the 07-13 grab-bag remainder, minus grand-view-park-turtle-hill and london-notebook-writing which this run rescued, plus today's un-themed shortlist). Watch for a weekly catch around 07-19.
