description: "Nearly 50 years after the sitcom premiered, an actual Cincinnati station has acquired the WKRP call letters and is playing classic rock — Les Nessman would approve."
---
WKRP in Cincinnati ran from 1978 to 1982. The call letters were fictional — they had to be, because the FCC reserves W-letters for stations east of the Mississippi but the show used a then-unassigned combination. In 2026, a Cincinnati classic-rock station applied for and received the letters. They play a "Turkeys Away" commemorative loop every Thanksgiving.
