## 2026-07-08 — pick of the day: reclips
Chosen over WhimFiles for breadth and tile legibility. Clipboard history is a universal daily action, so "your clipboard, right where you're typing" lands on any Mac visitor in one line, and the hero shows the bubble anchored at the text caret — the whole idea in a single glance. WhimFiles is the more powerful, deeper app, but a fuzzy-find file manager presumes a keyboard-power-user audience, its filter-UI hero is less immediately legible, it's Apple-Silicon-only, and at $19.99 vs. Reclips's $4.99 it's the bigger ask — a narrower tile. Both are new apps without a track record, but Reclips's single-idea simplicity makes it the lower-risk, wider-appeal hero; WhimFiles is the ready alternative if the pick should favor depth over reach. (Previous pick, say-hey-message-memory, has had its day since 2026-07-07.)

## 2026-07-09 — capture run
Sources scanned: 59 total — 10 `fetch: skip`, 19 cadence-skipped (weekly/monthly/as-needed sources all freshly scanned in the 07-07 full sweep, still inside their windows), and 30 actively scanned (all daily feeds + the ongoing shops/sources). Of the 30 active: 13 productive, 15 empty/all-dup, 2 blocked. Same day-after-sweep profile as 07-08; the fresh signal was again the Mac-app cluster (r/macapps alone produced 6).
Productive sources: MacStories, Six Colors, Daring Fireball — Linked List, OSXDaily, r/macapps, Product Hunt, This Is Why I'm Broke, Open Culture, Kottke.org, AFAR, A.Word.A.Day, r/dadjokes, icanhazdadjoke.

Shortlist (11, ranked):
1. recall-work-session-memory — auto-threads scattered tabs/docs/messages into one-tap resumable sessions; universal context-switching pain, local-first, real product screenshot [review candidate]
2. picview-image-viewer — fast, minimal Preview replacement with built-in OCR across 30+ formats; clean in-app hero, broad daily use [review candidate]
3. stash-tactile-control-layer — hidden screen-edge dials with real trackpad haptics; genuinely novel interaction (hero: icon only, so a text-legible virtue)
4. taskstxt-plain-text-task-manager — a native task manager that's really one grep-able .txt file; strong dev appeal, real screenshot
5. iris-photos-dock-faces-icon — pin a person's face as a real Dock icon + escapes Tahoe's squircle; DF-vetted whimsy, real screenshot
6. st-johns-co-cathedral-malta — fortress-plain shell hiding wall-to-wall baroque gold + a signed Caravaggio; travel variety, strong Wikimedia hero
7. orbit-for-mac-google-accounts — every Google account cleanly separated in one native local-first window; real screenshot
8. logitech-mobi-fold-travel-mouse — folds to a 2.2×2.5" slab, 22 hours of use from a 1-minute charge; physical variety, MacStories-vetted photo
9. try-eliza-chatbot — playable, faithful recreation of the 1966 ELIZA/DOCTOR chatbot; delightful web toy (hero: only a 48px favicon, skipped)
10. ancient-egypt-painters-palette — a 3,000-year-old scribe's palette at the Met still smudged with its pigments; artifact-delight, museum photo
11. vasco-v4-translator — pocket translator, 112 languages, built-in SIM with free lifetime data; physical + Amazon link
Not shortlisted (captured, lower priority): smartclipboard (clipboard category saturated after the 07-08 reclips review, though sequential-paste is a distinct trick), app-monitor (crowded housekeeping genre, icon-only media), iphone-dumb-phone-assistive-access (solid iOS tip but links to a Wired explainer), macos-golden-gate-27-wallpapers (modest wallpaper-download post), inventing-eliza-book (good AI-history book but no accessible hero; second ELIZA item of the day), hopper-psycho-house (delightful essay, mid), mcintosh-ma2375 ($$$$ audiophile display piece — niche), the June Jordan quote, and the four jokes. Shortlist skews Mac-app (6 of 11) again because that is where the fresh daily signal was — the weeklies were cadence-skipped and the shop grids unchanged — same honest call as 07-08.
Two same-day ELIZA finds (try-eliza playable toy + Inventing ELIZA book) captured deliberately: distinct artifacts (a web toy vs. a scholarly MIT Press book), not twelve-variations-of-one-topic; sets up a possible AI-history angle. Only try-eliza shortlisted.

Heroes: 14 of 23 finds carry a hero. Text-only by design: 5 (1 quote, 4 jokes). For recall, taskstxt, iris, orbit, and smartclipboard the raw og:image was an app-icon-on-gradient or a generic OG/GitHub brand card, so a real in-app screenshot was pulled from each product page instead (recall product/focus.webp, taskstxt demo poster frame, iris hero-light-1800.jpg, orbit hero-mockup.jpeg, smartclipboard README screenshot1.png). Heroless misses: app-monitor (repo ships only icon/logo, no screenshot), stash (stashformac.com exposes only the app icon + decorative gradient + marketing .mp4s, no static screenshot), try-eliza (og:image resolves to a 48px Google-Sites favicon), inventing-eliza-book (mitpress.mit.edu 403s the cover fetch behind Akamai).

Amazon links added: 1 (vasco-v4-translator → B0B7SD23LR — verified as the Vasco V4 Cobalt Blue via Amazon search; canonical /dp form). Note: corrected the find body from the aggregator's "fully offline" claim to the accurate "built-in SIM with free lifetime data in ~200 countries" (Amazon listing confirms translations use the built-in SIM or Wi-Fi, not fully offline).

Dedup / dropped-on-the-bar notes: dropped as already-captured — whitcomb-shaftesbury-washable-jacket (Permanent Style, captured 07-07) and hastings-kool-aid-museum (the only new Atlas Obscura item, captured a prior run). Dropped on the bar: Andover Audio FreePlay speaker (still pre-order — same no-speculative call as 07-08); Benchmade Bugout Taiga Green (a colorway/finish variant of an existing knife — release-news, same call as prior colorway drops); OpenScreenShot (screenshot-annotation category saturated on the site, and a Chrome extension rather than a Mac app); PARRY-meets-the-DOCTOR RFC 439 (a static 1973 transcript — fails the usable-daily bar even under the "memorable" clause, and the ELIZA delight is already carried by try-eliza). Product Hunt was again overwhelmingly AI-agent/B2B SaaS (only Orbit cleared the strict bar). MoMA and Kikkerland grids are unchanged since the 07-07 sweep: the genuinely-new-looking MoMA items are a "Summer Fun" Jellycat plush line + kids' craft kits + licensed LEGO builds (all below the delight/daily-use bar), the Joe Colombo KD28 lamp and Kartell Componibili are evergreen catalog/collection pieces already considered (Componibili is a standing review), and a few passable Kikkerland novelties (juicy-jingles bike bell, golf caddy clip, bee scrub sponge) are passed-over evergreen catalog stock, not re-captured.

Source maintenance: none. Watch (not yet actionable): r/BuyItForLife and r/shortcuts both returned HTTP 429 on their old.reddit.com/.rss feeds this run. For r/shortcuts this is the 2nd consecutive 429 on old.reddit (1st was 07-08); for r/BuyItForLife it's the 1st (it fetched clean on old.reddit 07-08). Both are below the 3-consecutive-run hard-block threshold, and the other two Reddit feeds (r/macapps, r/dadjokes) fetched clean on old.reddit this run — so likely intermittent old.reddit rate-limiting rather than a hard block; monitor next run, no sources.json change yet. Snow Peak's news feed is stale (newest entry 2026-05-16) but it is an ongoing/manual-review source with live content, not a dead feed — no change.
New source nominees: 0 — today's finds were individual indie apps, single artifacts, and one destination; no new curated feed or source-of-sources surfaced.
